Biography
Nicky is an artist whose journey has been marked by a natural inclination towards art from a young age. Growing up in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, a pivotal moment came in high school when the Minister of Education selected her watercolors as standouts, igniting a realization of her unique artistic voice. Despite this early recognition, Nicky pursued a career in business, driven by a desire to earn her father's respect. Her artistic aspirations were always supported by her mother, who believed in her potential as an artist.
Years later, following the loss of her mother and the stress of a managerial position, Nicky found solace in drawing mandalas. This therapeutic practice evolved into an obsession, leading to commissions, licensing deals, and hosting mandala seminars both in homes and at the local art gallery. Her solo exhibition at the local artist league was a significant milestone, reaffirming her dedication to art.
Nicky's artistic journey took a new turn after moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, with her two children, where she met her now-husband, a journalism student who encouraged her to pursue her true passion. Returning to art full-time, Nicky began exploring watercolors, oils, and acrylics. During this period, she also pioneered the satisfying coloring video trend online, gaining significant recognition.
Currently based in Chelsea, New York City, Nicky draws inspiration from the vibrant urban environment around her. Fascinated by the juxtaposition of old and new, and the unique stories told in every corner of the city, she captures these scenes through photography and transforms them into paintings. Her work primarily features acrylic, watercolor, and pen and ink, each medium chosen based on the energy she aims to convey.
Nicky's art reflects her deep appreciation for the dynamic and ever-evolving cityscape of New York, aiming to evoke a sense of exploration and discovery in the viewer. As she continues to evolve as both an artist and a person, her vision remains steadfast: to create works that inspire and resonate, ultimately achieving recognition in esteemed galleries
